When a patient is appropriate for hospice care and has symptoms that can be addressed in an acute care setting, inpatient hospice care may be appropriate. Our 16-bed Hospice House provides care for patients in the final stages of terminal illness. The Hospice House is owned and operated by Hospice of Citrus County.

Common Criteria for Hospice Inpatient Admission

• Patient requires intensive skilled nursing care and symptom management.
• Patient requires end-stage care that has excedded safe menagement in the home.
• Patient requires observation and/or diagnostic evaluation.
• Patient requires palliative therpapy including symptom management, pain control and/or medication adjustment.

Patients may be referred by self, family, physicians, facilities, or hospice staff. Patients are accepted on need rather than ability to pay. Most services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. Gifts and donations provide support for hospice services not covered by insurance.
